A Fast Tour of the Windy City

Architecture Tour Participants

Professors Bob Coffeen, Steve Grabow and Kent Spreckelmeyer led 42 students on the School’s 2005 Chicago Architecture Tour. The group departed Lawrence on Thursday, September 29th and returned late Saturday, October 2nd. While in Chicago, they viewed several Frank Lloyd Wright houses in Oak Park and visited his Unity Temple. They also visited the offices of Kirkegaard Associates, Consultants in Acoustics; Perkins + Will; and OWP/P Architects-Engineers. In addition to the traditional visit to Oak Park and Chicago firms, the trip involved a series of tours of landmark buildings and districts: a Thursday tour of buildings by Helmut Jahn, Rem Koolhaas and others located on the Illinois Institute of Technology Campus; Friday tours of the Chicago Symphony Center and the tall buildings in Chicago’s Loop; and a Saturday visit to the new Millennium Park (led by David Broz (B.Arch., 1997) with stops at the Pritzker Music Pavilion and the Harris Theatre.
